My
name (obviously) is Bill Griese. I was born in Nutley, NJ in 1969.
With two musicians as older brothers, my love for music was established
at an early age. But it wasn't until after high school that I first
began playing guitar. As soon as I could play three chords, I was
trying to write my own songs -- and boy were they bad! My songwriting
began to take some early shape in college. I went to Lafayette College
in Easton, PA, where I met my co-writing buddy Dave Hammer. There,
we would entertain anyone willing to listen.
After college I spent several years honing my
music, while I went to work in the real world. As I improved, more
and more people began requesting tapes of my tunes. That was extremely
flattering, and let me know I was headed in a good direction. I married
my wife Kim in '96 and we moved from NJ to Colorado in early '98.
While in Colorado, I continued songwriting (sometimes over the phone with
Dave Hammer). In 1999 he and I came up with what we considered
something special in "Love's Seen It All," and decided to do a demo.
Through some fortunate leads I ended up at the studio of the awesome Jim
Ratts. It was there I met two very talented musicians, Ernie Martinez
and Scott Bennett. The demo came out great and gave me a small taste
of the magic of the studio.
In 2002, after I began playing out in public more regularly, I made
the resolution to finally record my first full-length album.
It took about a year to organize the material,
assemble the right musicians, record, mix, master and produce the whole
thing. Recording in Jim's studio, I again called on the musical talents
of Ernie and Scott, in addition to several other tlaented artists.
And I actually had the great pleasure of having each of my brothers fly
in from opposite coasts to participate in the album as well. I kept
playing but didn't write a single song during that year - pouring all of
my creative energies into the CD. In the end, I couldn't have been
more pleased with how "For this Day" turned out. And the strong reaction
I've gotten from local recording and music folks, and from listeners worldwide,
has been incredibly rewarding.
